Spring Cleaning Tips by Cris's Cleaning Services

According to a 2020 survey from the American Cleaning Institute, about 78% of households participate in some form of spring cleaning each year. Though that certainly is a lot of people cleaning at one time, this shouldn’t come as a total surprise. It becomes evident even by driving through neighborhoods when the warm weather hits; families are outside working on the yard together and garbage piles begin to look a little bigger with items that have been discarded. Though it certainly feels great to have spring cleaning done, many Americans have come to dread this chore each year. What if it didn’t have to be such a burden? We have some spring cleaning tips and tricks to help this year’s cleaning feel like a breeze.

It’s That Time of Year Again

Here are some spring cleaning tips to help you and your household clean with ease:

Make a Plan

One of the best things that can be done to make spring cleaning easier is to make a plan. Planning which tasks need done and in which order you will do them will ensure all that needs to be done, will get done. Start by writing down everything that needs done, then sort it by priority and difficulty. It may be best to start with the more difficult items and work your way down. If you are cleaning with someone else, then make sure items are assigned based on skills and knowledge of the spaces.

Throw Away and Donate Items

Marie Kondo revolutionized spring cleaning two years ago when she unleashed her tidying methods on the world. Emphasizing only holding onto items that truly bring joy, she has taught millions of people how to declutter their spaces. Before beginning the process of cleaning, don’t forget to declutter a bit. Throw away what cannot be recycled, but watch for anything that might be of value or could be reused. These types of items can be either donated or sold.

Do a Little More Than Usual

Part of spring cleaning is the depth of cleaning that it entails. Go for the gold this year by doing more than you would normally on a deep clean. Oprah Daily suggests non-conventional tasks like purifying the air, washing any pet beds, steaming furniture, flushing drains, and shampooing your car.

Dust, Dust, Dust

Dust, though seemingly only an aesthetic problem, can actually really cause harm to us. When we allow dust to build up, we allow for dust mites to dwell in it, spread, and even multiply. Dust all kinds of surfaces that may ordinarily get ignored, including blinds, baseboards, fans, among others.

Stay Minimal on Products

Contrary to popular belief, having every product in the book does not always make it easier to clean. Sometimes, it can make the task even more daunting! Slim your cleaning supplies down to just the favorites, eliminating any very old products or ones that have gone unused. Many products can be multipurpose in nature. If you are unsure about what surfaces a product is good for, check the label or do a little searching for reviews.

Get Help

Spring cleaning is not an easy task to undertake, so try to get help if it is possible. Whether it be a partner, children, or a cleaning service, this is not something that needs to be gone alone.
