How to Deep Clean a Bathroom in 10 Easy Steps

Cris's Cleaning Services LLC - How to deep clean a bathroom 10 steps Arizona The Valley Best of the Desert

The bathroom is, without question, the room I get asked about the most. It makes sense — it's small, it gets used constantly, and somehow it always seems to need more work than people expect. After more than 10 years of cleaning bathrooms across The Valley, I've developed a system that genuinely works, every single time.

My name is Cris, and I own Cris's Cleaning Services, LLC. Today I want to walk you through the exact 10-step process my team uses to deep clean a bathroom from top to bottom. Whether you're doing this yourself or just want to know what a real deep clean should include, this is it.

Why this room needs its own process

Unlike other rooms, a bathroom combines water, moisture, and constant daily use. As a result, it builds up grime faster than almost anywhere else in the home. Therefore, having a clear, repeatable process matters more here than in any other room.

What you’ll need before you start

First, gather an all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, a grout brush or old toothbrush, microfiber cloths, a toilet brush, rubber gloves, and a bucket. Additionally, having everything ready before you start saves you from running back and forth. As a result, you won't lose momentum halfway through the job.

The 10-Step Deep Clean Process

1
Clear everything off surfacesRemove all bottles, toothbrushes, and items from counters, the tub, and the shower. You cannot deep clean around clutter — it needs to be fully cleared first.
2
Dust from top to bottomStart with the exhaust fan, light fixtures, and the top of cabinets. Dust always falls downward, so working top to bottom means you are not redoing surfaces you already cleaned.
3
Spray and let cleaner sitApply cleaner to the shower, tub, sink, and toilet first, then let it sit for several minutes while you work on other tasks. This gives the product time to actually break down grime instead of just wiping it around.
4
Scrub the tile floorsUse a strong brush, sponge, or old mop with a cleaner of your preference and water, or a grout-specific cleaner. This is the single most skipped step, and it makes the biggest visible difference.
5
Scrub the shower and tubGo back over the area you sprayed earlier with a scrub brush or sponge, focusing on soap scum, hard water spots, and any visible buildup around the faucet and drain.
6
Deep clean the toiletScrub inside the bowl including under the rim, then wipe down the outside, base, and the often-forgotten area behind the toilet where dust loves to collect.
7
Clean the sink and counterScrub the sink basin, wipe down the counter, and pay extra attention to the faucet base where toothpaste and soap residue tends to build up unnoticed.
8
Polish mirrors and glassUse a streak-free glass cleaner on mirrors and any glass shower doors. Wipe in one direction with a microfiber cloth for the cleanest, streak-free finish.
9
Wipe down baseboards and doorWipe baseboards, the door, and door handles. These low-traffic areas are easy to overlook but collect dust and grime just as fast as everything else.
10
Sweep and mop the floorSave the floor for last. Sweep up hair and debris, then mop with a disinfecting cleaner, working from the back of the room toward the door. AND REMEMBER TO CHANGE YOUR WATER AND RINCE YOUR MOP FREQUENT

Why Arizona bathrooms need extra attention

Our hard water here in The Valley leaves mineral deposits on faucets, showerheads, and glass faster than in most other states. Furthermore, desert dust settles in bathrooms just like everywhere else in the home. Because of this, I genuinely recommend a deep clean of the bathroom at least once a month, even if you're keeping up with general cleaning in between.

"I followed this exact process last weekend and could not believe the difference in my grout alone. I had no idea how much was hiding there until I actually scrubbed it properly."
